The Scarlet

The Scarlet is one of Singapore's best boutique hotels, with a decadent, old-fashioned flavour that combines touches of the Moulin Rouge with Asian opulence. Guestrooms are elegantly furnished in dark wood and cream fabrics, with sensuous touches such as beaded lampshades, ornate gilt mirrors and richly-coloured silk cushions. Each of the suites is individually designed and a work of art in its own right, with names such as Swank, Lavish, Opulent and Passion (the last coming with a private whirlpool bath on the balcony). The glamorous Desire restaurant, as the name suggests, resembles a blackand- red opium den, while the more casual Breeze is located on a rooftop deck and offers grilled meats, fish and salads. Visit the Bold Bar, a gloriously over-the-top establishment that offers potent cocktails and exotic canapés. In between dining and in-room lounging, take an hour or so to soak in the hotel's open-air Jacuzzi.
