With its unique style and superb location right on the Mekong River, The Grand Hotel has an elegant mix of old and new. The hotel was constructed on the grounds of the residence of the former Luang Prabang Prime Minister, Prince Phetsarath. Built in French colonial style with Art Deco rooms, this hotel has 76 deluxe rooms and 2 suites. The grounds of the hotel are a highlight - well kept gardens and ponds with the restaurant and seating areas taking advantage of the excellent views over the river and mountains of the area.
Rooms are very comfortable and modern, with each balcony having a view over the Mekong. Although The Grand is a little further away from the centre of town than some other hotels in Luang Prabang, guests can get to town by the hotel's regular shuttle bus and boat service. The boat trip in particular is a great way of getting into Luang Prabang.
Facilities: 76 Deluxe Rooms, 2 suites, room service, cable TV, mini-bar, air-con, IDD direct phone, teak wood floors, marbled bathroom with full amenities.
Traveller's view: A little far out of town, but the stunning and quiet setting more than makes up for this. Unfortunately, there is no pool but it's good bet if you're looking for tranquil resort-style accommodation.
