The former home of a Lao prince, Maison Souvannaphoum has received awards as one of the world’s best boutique hotels. It’s a wonderful mix of tradition and modernity, with the interior design mixing Asian and Western influences. In the guestrooms, rich silk textiles in red and gold are draped on walls and ceilings, and private balconies feature deep wicker chairs for relaxing. The hotel’s restaurant, Elephant Blanc, serves mouth-watering French, Laotian and Indochinese cuisine in a serene setting by a lap pool. Wooden sun loungers under elegant parasols provide the perfect place to relax on a hot afternoon, while the hotel’s wonderful spa, the Angsana, is nestled amongst tropical gardens and offers luxuriously relaxing treatments. Maison Souvannaphoum is only a five minute walk to the wonderful H’mong night market and to the several of the ornate monasteries and restored colonial villas which make Luang Prabang one of our favourite places in Asia.
