Guilin is one of China's most attractive small cities thanks to its dramatic limestone karsts, the slow flow of the Li River, and the many osmanthus trees that line its streets and paths. The countryside around Guilin is spectacular, with some of China’s most most beautiful rice terrace scenery. This includes the amazing Dragon’s Backbone rice terraces which cling precariously to the slopes of a string of 800 metre peaks.
Yangshuo is a peaceful community set in the lush green rice paddies of southern China, surrounded by meandering river ways and limestone peaks. It provides an interesting contrast to China’s big cities. Spend an afternoon walking the cobblestone streets, relax in a street side café, and enjoy the colourful atmosphere of this enchanting town.
